It’s fun to get out, even if you don’t go very far. A while back, Desi and I went on a picnic one quiet afternoon at a nearby park. In the busy lives we live, there is much to be said for staring up into the sky and dreaming. Peace and quiet are things that need to be sought out sometimes, which is exactly what Desi and I did. 🙂

… and you know what, I didn’t get a photo of the wonderful spread of food we brought. Wonderful sandwiches, cheeses and bread, and great dessert too! I did, however, try out some infrared photography, which was quite interesting:

It is interesting to see the world in a way that we can never see it. Our eyes cannot see infrared, yet it bounces around the world just like regular light. It acts a little differently though – it reflects heavily off of foliage, and almost not at all off of water and the sky. It can make for some very surreal looking landscapes – portraits too! (you’ll find one of Desi in the gallery below). Colour in infrared photos are always fake, so you can play with them and have fun, or make them black & white. Photos like that can help me open my eyes, a wonderful thing to do.

Desi and I had a great time, definitely going to do this again 🙂

    Hi lovely Donny,

Sweetheart, the photos are beyond amazing(especially because we are on it;)). There are a few different categories of photos and from it all there are definite favorites. From the portraits my most favorite is the one with us both and the one on which I am in black and white. To some it might look scary, but I think this picture looks so cool. Now everyone knows what I would have looked like if I was a vampire he he 🙂 From the flowers I would definitely pick the poppy flower because of its colors and texture, shapes and warmth, softness and finesse. The pictures of the city trees and streets in infrared are stunningly beautiful. I love how soft they look like, almost if they were made out of cotton candy :). And last but not least, my absolute favorite photo is the one with only you because you look so cute on it 🙂

    I love you so much!!!
    You are amazing sweetheart <3

    Hi Don & Desi

Loved the pictures of both of you. Also the infrared is really neat.
You both look so happy, & that makes my heart grow bigger.
Sure hope they can save the buildings of the POW
    camp as well.
It’s always wonderful of you keeping us up dated. I am keeping you all in my prayers. Love to all.

how did you do the infrared? did you get one of your cameras converted to an IR?

the IR-with-blue-sky looks incredible, a lot of times you see straight black-and-white IR nature photos and the black sky just looks too harsh. the blue softens it up nicely. would love to see some more IR work

Hi everyone, thanks for the comments! Glad everyone likes the infrared shots, I’ll definitely do more!

John, the infrared photos were taken with an infrared filter on an unmodified camera. The shots were taken at a high ISO (1600-3200) for faster shutter speeds and focused manually.

The trick I used with the colour infrared shots was adjusting the white-balance to about what “normal” should be, then swapping the red and blue colour channels in photoshop and tweaking from there. Tedious, but really cool results. And since you’re playing with light you can’t even see, your creative license is unlimited.

I love you so very much too sweetheart 🙂 <3
