Playing with Water
I had some time today to play around with my camera a little bit. My task today was to try and photograph water droplets. The Barrie Photo Club has monthly themes for photos to submit for fun and exposure, and this month’s theme is “motion”. Freezing the motion of falling water droplets, I thought, would be a great way to fit this theme. I am quite pleased with the results:
I took a few others that were worth showing (find them below), and the experience taught me a fair bit about these sorts of setups. Definitely tricky to get things right the first time, but I bet if I try it again it would be much easier. It was a great experiment, something I need to do more of, especially with flash.

Yep, very tricky to nail! Looks like you’re getting a good handle on it, though!
so did you capture these outdoors? or did you have a small studio-setup in a controlled environment? they’re fantastic, especially the Dancing Water one … I didn’t know droplets could look like that
Thanks for the comments! My “small studio” was my kitchen counter. The photo “Dancing Water” was taken with a coffee mug filled to the edge. I placed my macro ring light directly over top of the cup (which was white inside) with a flash ratio of 4:1 left to right. The water droplets were dropped through the center of the ring light. I held a remote shutter in my other hand to fire off a few shots as the water fell.
As a never recovering coffee-holic, I loved the coffee photo. Did you have any other java inspired ones that didn’t quite make the feature?
Hi Don
After watching you take several photo’s in the kitchen, these turned out amazing.
