I knew when I got some of these on Sunday that this was what I would photograph for the letter D. Desi and I had tried them a few weeks back, and I had really liked it so she surprised me with a few more! What is it? Something you usually don’t find in grocery stores around here: Dragonfruit. Also called a pitaya, but dragonfruit sounds so much cooler. They grow in South America mostly, and you can find them in Toronto at Chinese markets fairly commonly. This is actually the only place I have seen them for sale in Canada.

The fruit itself has a consistency I’ll compare to kiwi, and the seeds are completely edible, similar to poppy seeds. Its a sweet fruit, yet doesn’t have much flavour besides being sweet. In any case, they make a great snack.
