The Universe (as I see it)

Flying on top of the world

This weekend I spent a few days in Sudbury. I had wanted to go up flying again with my Uncle Mike, and the weather was absolutely perfect for it. Seeing the world from the sky is amazing, and I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to experience it. Thanks Uncle Mike!

I had an idea for a unique photo, that didn’t turn out exactly the way I wanted. My idea was to hold the camera upside down on a tripod, and hold it down below the plane while in the air with my fisheye lens attached. This would have made the ground below us look like the Earth, wrapped around the edges and becoming completely spherical. Didn’t quite work because we weren’t high enough. It did however make us look like we were flying in the outer atmosphere when I tilted it on an angle:

Flying at the top of the world

We were only about 600 feet off the ground in that photo, but the fisheye lens makes it seem much MUCH higher. I love the way it turned out, even if it wasn’t quite what I intended. I took a variety of other photos this weekend, some around home, in the air, and on the road. Almost got a close-up of a Snowy Owl too, almost. Here’s the pics from the weekend!

…And tomorrow it’s back to the college grind for four days, then reading week and my wisdom teeth come out! Joy. :P

    Hey Donny!

That is such a cool picture! OMG! I can’t wait to show Mike later today. It really is awesome – you have such a talent for taking unique and amazing pics.

Thanks for all your help on my blog. I took your advice and uploaded my video to YouTube instead – much better. And I can easily change the size of my photos now – I saw that icon and I changed them to 60% but I didn’t see the Advanced Options page until you told me – which I now use to really get them the right size.

    Thanks,

    Aunt Cindy

Thanks for the great comments! I loved the chance to go flying, and would love to go again in the spring or summer. I also took a quick video with my camera, I’ll hopefully find some time over the next week to post that too.

Glad you’re figuring out more with your Blog auntie Cindy, and I got your e-mail about additional issues – I’ll try and take a look later tonight.

And James, still waiting on those Ireland photos from you ;) still very curious!
